Katharine Hepburn: Pioneer of the American Sportswear Aesthetic

“I was a success because of the times I lived in. My style of personality became the style.” – Katharine Hepburn

Our first celebrity spotlight on our "Do Your Clothes Reflect Your Personality" series is the sporty classic icon, Katharine Hepburn. Wide-legged trousers, loafers, and menswear-inspired blazers and shirts were all made more socially acceptable by this trailblazer.

She was the essence of cool but she dressed the way that she did because it was her. While almost every other celebrity was obsessed with wearing heals, tight dresses, and appearing like they had an hourglass silhouette she gave herself the freedom to breathe. She was unencumbered in both dress and lifestyle.

If you feel that you have a sporty style then may this be the inspiration for you to dress however you want! Low-rise jeans may be in style but it's important for sporty girls to be able to move freely without worrying that their underwear will show when they bend over. The same thing goes for stiff material, or low-cut tops—sporty girls need to be uninhibited! A loose-fitting, monochromatic outfit that's assembled with well-made pieces will always look cool (thanks, in part, to Katharine Hepburn.)
